Low-pass filters are used to transparently pass high frequency signals while blocking or attenuating frequency components above a specific cutoff frequency.

The low-pass filter has high permeability below the cut-off frequency, that is, signals passing below that frequency will be virtually unaffected. Signals above the cut-off frequency are attenuated or blocked by the filter.

Overview

Low-pass filters can have different attenuation rates, representing the degree of attenuation of the high frequency signal relative to the low frequency signal from the cutoff frequency. The attenuation rate is usually expressed in decibels (dB), for example, 20dB/octave means 20dB of attenuation at each frequency.

Low-pass filters can be packaged in different types, such as plug-in modules, surface mount devices (SMT), or connectors. The type of package depends on the application requirements and installation method.

Low pass filters are widely used in signal processing. For example, in audio processing, low-pass filters can be used to eliminate high-frequency noise and preserve the low-frequency components of the audio signal. In image processing, low-pass filters can be used to smooth images and remove high-frequency noise from images. In addition, low-pass filters are often used in wireless communication systems to suppress high-frequency interference and improve signal quality.
